The concept of architectural style evolved over the centuries. Currently, this term is adequate both in the local art as well as in the case of an international architectural principles. Through the style, a certain way of designing and building of a buildings of residential utility, public and administrative are described. Architectural style refers to a certain moment in the history, therefore the culture of those days has an influence on its development. Its characteristics are strictly related to the technological level of the given civilization.
There are many architectural styles. In Europe, first there was classicism of ancient Greece, then classicism of ancient Rome. Next were Byzantine and Romanesque styles. Until the sixteenth century buildings were created in Gothic style, then Renaissance and Baroque dictated terms. Comeback of classicism dates back to the late seventeenth century. However, it was quickly forced out by Romanticism. At the turn of the XIX and XX century Art Nouveau style took effect. The two last trends in architecture were based on expressionism and constructivism.
Architectural style in terms of definition is a very inaccurate expression because of many different factors which determine its verification to a particular period in art. The term came into use in the XIX century to facilitate categorization of individual rules in the design of buildings.
