New eye-tracking research from travel insurance provider AllClear has revealed which runways captured travellers’ attention the quickest and for the longest.

The landing at London City Airport provides a cityscape descent, where you can spot landmarks like The Shard, Tower Bridge and the London Eye. The descent at Nice Airport is also striking, as you fly in over the Côte d’Azur while flying into Innsbruck Airport in Austria has dramatic views of the Swiss Alps.

Other coastal landings on the top 15 list are Honolulu International Airport in Hawaii and Seychelles International Airport. Both give you a glimpse into the islands’ stunning beaches before touchdown.

“Many people think flying to their holiday is simply about getting from A to B, but some landings are experiences in themselves – beautiful moments that stay with you long after touchdown,” said Letitia Smith, head of communications at AllClear.

A group of 100 participants were presented with a series of images showcasing these airport runways, and their visual engagement was measured using eye-tracking technology. The study recorded how quickly an image captured their attention and how long it held their attention.
