[Suva, Fiji, South Pacific Region] On the evening of June 19, 2025, under the glittering South Pacific stars, the Oceania Conference Centre at the University of the South Pacific in Suva, the capital of Fiji, hosted a solemn and moving gathering — the “Poetry Night for Peace: Support Palestine. “The venue was packed to full capacity, and some poets even chose to stand outside the doors and windows to listen in, unwilling to miss this meaningful event. Nearly a hundred poets from across Oceania and other region came together, raising their voices in a unified song of peace for our times.
Organized by the Fiji Poetry Shop, supported by World Poetry Movement (WPM), the event attracted poets, scholars, and cultural and human rights activists from nearly 20 countries. Participating nations included Solomon Islands, Niue, Cook Islands, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Samoa, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Australia, and host country Fiji, as well as countries from afar such as India, Italy, and Lebanon. Through poetry readings, dance, and other artistic expressions, participants conveyed their steadfast commitment to peace and justice, and their deep humanitarian concern for the people of Palestine.
One of the evening’s highlights was a speech delivered by Christine Chen, Oceania continent Coordinator of the World Poetry Movement (WPM). She emphasized that poetry is a bridge across cultures and a powerful tool for healing wounds and resisting violence. Her words sparked thunderous applause. The poets collectively advocated for using poetry as a weapon, literature as a voice — to awaken conscience and draw urgent attention to the humanitarian crisis currently facing the Palestinian people.
This poetry gathering not only showcased the vibrant poetic spirit of the South Pacific, but also highlighted the region’s proactive role in global peace and human rights issues. Through poetic dialogue and cross-cultural exchange, the island nations of the South Pacific expressed a shared longing for a just and compassionate world.
The University of the South Pacific offered strong support for this event, providing the venue and engaging both faculty and students in active assistance on and off stage. Their wholehearted commitment to cultural exchange and peace-building was evident and deeply appreciated by all attendees.
As night fell, the voices of poets echoed through the skies of the tropical archipelago, lingering in the air — as if to remind the world: while borders may divide land, poetry unites hearts. The “Poetry Night for Peace” was not only a tribute to the people of Palestine, but also a powerful testament to the enduring force of language and the unquenchable light of the written word in the pursuit of dignity and peace for all.

The University of the South Pacific (USP) was established in 1968 in the Laucala Bay area of Suva, Fiji. It is one of only two regional universities in the world jointly owned by multiple countries. The university is collectively owned by 12 member countries, each of which hosts a campus, with Fiji having three campuses. The member countries include the Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, and Samoa. USP is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities.
The University of the South Pacific serves as a central hub for education and research on Pacific cultures and environments, with a student population of over 30,000.

2025年6月19日晚，在星光璀璨的南太平洋天空下，斐济首都苏瓦的南太平洋大学大洋洲会议中心迎来了一场庄严而感人的诗歌盛会——“和平诗歌之夜：支持巴勒斯坦”隆重举行。会场内座无虚席，部分无座位的诗人自愿站立于门外旁听，只为不缺席这场意义非凡的诗会。近百位来自大洋洲及世界各地的诗人齐聚一堂，共同吟唱一首祈愿和平的时代之歌。
本次活动由斐济诗歌坊（Fiji Poetry Shop）主办，吸引了来自近二十个国家的诗人、学者、文化及人权活动家参与。参会国家包括：所罗门群岛、纽埃、库克群岛、巴布亚新几内亚、汤加、西萨摩亚、瓦努阿图、新喀里多尼亚、澳大利亚和东道主斐济，以及远道而来的印度、意大利与黎巴嫩等国。诗人们以朗诵与舞蹈等多元艺术形式，表达对和平与正义的坚守，及对巴勒斯坦人民的人道关怀。
当晚的亮点之一，是世界诗歌运动（WPM）大洋洲区总协调员陈佩英女士（Christine Chen）的致辞。她指出，诗歌是跨越文化的桥梁，是疗愈创伤与抵抗暴力的利器。其发言引发现场雷鸣般的掌声。诗人们一致倡议，以诗为武，以文为声，唤醒良知，特别呼吁关注巴勒斯坦人民当前所承受的人道危机。
本诗会不仅彰显了南太平洋地区蓬勃的诗歌活力，更彰显了该地区在全球和平与人权议题中的积极角色。通过诗意对话与跨文化交流，南太平洋岛国人民表达了对一个公正、和有同理心的世界共同渴望。
南太平洋大学对此次活动给予了大力支持，不仅无偿提供场地，其教职员工与学生更在台前幕后倾力协助，展现了大学社区对文化交流与和平理念的高度重视与热情，赢得与会嘉宾的一致敬意。
随着夜幕低垂，诗人的吟诵声回荡在热带群岛的天空，久久不息——它仿佛在提醒世人：尽管边界可以分隔土地，但诗歌能让心灵相通。“和平诗歌之夜”不仅是献给巴勒斯坦人民的致意，更是一场见证语言之力、文字之光在人类尊严与和平追求中永不熄灭的礼赞。
