A top Vietnamese property tycoon has been sentenced to death in one of the biggest corruption cases in history, with an estimated $27 billion in damages.
Truong My Lan, 67, will face death by lethal injection after a panel of three jurors and two judges rejected all defence arguments and found her guilty of swindling cash from Saigon Commercial Bank (SCB) over a decade.

越南快讯最新消息，越南女首富、万盛发集团（VTP Group）董事长张美兰（Truong My Lan）11日遭判死刑。胡志明市人民法院法官表示，现年68岁的张美兰因贿赂、违反银行规定、挪用公款罪名遭定罪。
法官也说，尽管张美兰在这次审判之前没有犯罪前科，且为社区做出许多贡献，参加慈善和医疗活动，但她也是精心策画有组织犯罪的主谋，造成不可挽回的后果。
张美兰先前被控与西贡商业银行高层合谋，在2012年至2022年以诈欺性贷款的方式，安排2500笔贷款，从银行窃取1000兆越南盾给自己的公司。
截至2023年秋季，约70％的贷款金额被认为是无法追讨的。1000兆越南盾占西贡商业银行在这段期间发放贷款总额的93%，也相当于越南截至2023年9月底的国内生产总额（GDP）的22.6%。
