Poet Li Fa-mo has authorized poetess Lina Moon（ Lin Qiao-er）to translate the 12 poems exclusively into English.

 

1 不

 

会说“不”吗？还会写吗？也会
把“对”给他吧！让寸心知
“是”呢？“是”在哪儿
在“非”的后面，它被改为“不”

No

 

Do you know how to say “no”? Can you still know how to write the word?
Will you give him the word“right”
and let a faithful heart know it？
What about “yes”? Where is it
It is changed into “not” behind the word “wrong”.

 

2 老乡

 

灯火告诉星辰，我们是老乡哩
在清晨六点钟以前的夜路上
路灯喊路，快跟上来呀
夜半摸黑的一颗星，从人梦里消失
山都戴上天蓝的帽子

 

Fellow Townsmen

 

The lights tell the stars that we are fellow townsmen
On the night road before six o’clock in the morning
The streetlights are shouting at the roads,hurry up and follow up
One dark star in the midnight disappears from human dreams
And then all mountains wear a light blue hat

 

3 鱼尾纹

 

鱼尾纹网过鱼吗？没！只网眼神
嘴角弹跳起来，被一句话网住了
嗓门有些沙哑
老不是自称的，是岁月逼的
白发与鱼尾纹论价值
猫很年少，都有胡子
还思春，也像个老头子

 

Crow’s Feet

 

Have the crow’s feet net ever caught a fish? No! Only a gaze
The corners of my mouth bounces up, due to being caught by a sentence
My voice is a bit hoarse
Being old is not self proclaimed, but driven by time
How to compare the value of gray hair and crow’s feet？
Such as a cat,although it is very young
It also can have beards
and long for spring,or act like an aged person

 

4 比

 

人面与票面比试脸面，白眼像白天
连说比个鬼
一叠书稿与一叠票子掰手劲
不知天高地厚，叹息暗暗夜晚

 

Comparing

 

Face to face,comparing faces of a man and a piece of paper money,
A look of contempt is like daytime
They say it is meaningless to do that
Just like a stack of manuscripts wrestling with a stack of banknotes
is ignorant of the height of the sky and the thickness of the earth, sighing in the dark nigh

 

5 幻觉

 

叹息与落叶，两个影子
飘在一块玻璃上，被风吹
时日似风雨
光阴两脚跑得快，枯枝上
一行蚂蚁不紧不慢
日渐朦胧，露出难色

 

Hallucination

 

Sighs and fallen leaves make two shadows
floating on a piece of glass, blown by the wind
Time is like wind and rain
running fast with both feet.On withered branches
a row of ants is neither fast nor slow
in gradually hazy,showing signs of reluctance or embarrassment

 

6 偶感

 

人心有一直转动的日月，曰“太极”
阴阳合抱一世生老，名“变异”
日月之“明”统治人心，循环复循环
传承生灭
典范天意
泪能赢得同情，似雨
笑能掠取真知，似天晴
剩下的理性冷静，哭笑不得

 

An Occasional Feel

 

The human heart has a constantly rotating sun and moon, called “Tai Chi”
Yin and Yang embrace each other for a lifetime,getting old and known as “mutation”
The “brightness” of the sun and moon rules the hearts of people,forming a repeating cycle
carrying on the birth and death
and representing heavenly intention
Tears can win sympathy, like rain
Laughter can take true knowledge,like the sunny sky
The remaining rational and calm, unable to laugh or cry

 

7 梦想

 

人是物质的杰作，精神的财富
宝藏着许多扬弃
人之内外，哪是梦想？哪是远方
哪是兄妹
血肉的建筑材料之内，魂儿
有羊的“咩—咩—咩—”
狼的“嗯—嗯—嗯—”
都很温柔呀
像白昼是黑夜吐出的骨头
人心似梦，月亮光光

 

A Dream

 

People are material masterpieces and spiritual wealth
having many abandoning behaviors
Inside and outside a man’s body, what is a dream? Where is the distance
Where are siblings
Within the building materials of flesh and blood, souls have
a sheep’s shout “baa baa baa baa”
and the wolf’s shout “hmm hmm hmm”
They all sound very gentle
just like the daytime is the bone vomited out by night
A man’s heart is like a dream,under bright and sparking moon

 

8 北海

 

摊开捡来的沙滩，找脚印
碧波涌来一片天蓝
浪滚这么多年了，还记住你，北海
和那时诗友们的泳姿，还属于脑海
之后有眼泪汇成过海水
海涛中的那窈窕，仍有咸味

 

Beihai

 

Spread out the picked beach and look for footprints
Blue waves surge over
They have been rolling for so many years,still remember you,
My swimming style with my poetry friends in Beihai at that time still remains in my mind
After that,tears come together and form seawater
All graceful figures in the waves still have a salty taste

9 修行

 

有出发就有跌倒，远大前程
也有坦途等着车祸
向着青烟袅袅飞，日月那双目光
照人头顶，有时
身影是自己的一堵斜墙
撕回眸飞上天的那些羽翼
是回忆做错的作业纸屑吗

 

Practice

 

As soon as you set off, you might fall down
A bright future ahead might also have smooth paths or traffic accidents
Flying towards the light blue smoke, the pair of gazes of the sun and moon
shine on people’s heads. Sometimes
your figure is your own sloping wall
tearing the wings that looked back and then flew into the sky
Is it a memory of scraps of the wrong homework？

 

10 月夜

 

月照今夜，像一兜大白菜
没打农药，我可以证实
之上有星星的虫子

 

Moonlit Night

 

Tonight moonlight is shinning ,like a bag of big Chinese cabbage
No pesticide used, I can confirm
some brilliance of the stars on the cabbage

 

11 日照

 

旭日，是白天享用的果实
移动着给世人品尝，许多望眼似嘴唇
直至夕暮端走，传递给月起

 

Sunshine

 

The rising sun is people’s fruit during the day
moving to be tasted by the human, many eyes look like lips
until the dusk takes them away,and passes them to the moon

 

12 经历

 

皱纹经过人世，白发问，哪里人氏
从青丝处搬迁而来的
历程回答，撇捺放松一些是八月
微笑有桂花香
绕过的禁区呢？有过来人
在培训思考

Experience

 

Wrinkles pass through the world, white hair asks, where are you from。
Moved from black hair.
The answer is from the whole journey, just take it easy and relax. It will reach August,
each smile will have the fragrance of osmanthus flowers
What about the bypassed restricted area ? Someone has come over
and is training his thinking

诗人简介：李发模，男，1948年出生，汉族，中共党员，贵州省绥阳县人。1979年加入中国作家协会，1988年相继毕业于鲁迅文学院、北京大学作家班。曾任贵州省作家协会副主席、遵义市文联主席、中国诗歌学会常务理事。一级作家，著名诗人。已出版诗集、散文集共60余部作品，译为多国文字，获省级以上奖20余次。长诗《呼声》获中国首届诗歌奖，被前苏联作家叶甫图申科誉为＂中国新诗的里程碑”。是当前中国最有诗人气质和诗歌才情的作家之一。

Li Fa-mo, male, was born in 1948, Han ethnicity, a member of the Communist Party of China, from Suiyang County, Guizhou Province.He joined the Chinese Writers Association in 1979 and graduated from the Lu Xun Academy of Literature and the Writers Class at Beijing University in 1988. Formerly he served as Vice Chairman of Guizhou Writers Association, Chairman of Federation of Literary and Art Circles of Zunyi City , and Executive Director of China Poetry Society. A first-class writer and famous poet. More than 60 books of poetry and prose have been published, some of his works have been translated into multiple languages. He has won more than 20 provincial-level or above awards. His long poem “Call” won the First Session Poetry Award in China and was praised by former Soviet Union writer Ye Futushenke as a milestone in Chinese new poetry. Li Fa-mo is one of the most talented and poetic writers in China today.

 

译者简介：林巧儿,女诗人，女词人，翻译家，是两个文学团体（刊物）的英文编辑，已在中美等地发表（出版）60多万字的英文作品、翻译作品。她的诗、词、评论等发表在《中华诗词》、《诗选刊》、《深圳日报》英文版、《快乐英语报》、美国双语版《海华都市报》等国内外70多家刊物，多次获得各类诗赛奖项如“人祖山”杯（人祖山管委会与中国诗歌学会合办）等。

About the Translator：Lina Moon, a poetess, is mainly engaged in creation of traditional Chinese metrical poetry and modern poetry, poetry translation and poetry review. She is the English editor of two literature groups（magazines）.She has published more than six hundred thousand words in about seventy magazines and newspapers in the United States, China and other places, including all kinds of English works,translation works between Chinese and English. She has won some awards in various poetry competitions, such as the “Renzu Mountain” Cup (Jointly organized by Renzu Mountain Management Committee and the Chinese Poetry Society).
